Ford Ranger is Australia’s Number One selling vehicle for September 2017, building on its 4×4 leadership as Aussies embrace pick-ups

The Ford Ranger is Australia’s Number One selling vehicle, following a record September that saw 4,318 sales to build on Ranger’s 4×4 leadership year-to-date as Australians choose vehicles that reflect a versatile, dynamic lifestyle.

“With its locally-led design and engineering, we’re immensely proud that Australian customers’ feedback has allowed us to deliver a line-up of Ranger models that not only offer class-leading towing and strong payload capabilities, but also offer the safety and comfort to make them extremely liveable everyday vehicles,” said Greg Davidson, Sales Director of Ford Australia.

In the first nine months of this year, a total of 32,620 Ford Rangers have been sold in Australia, an increase of 21-percent over the same period in 2016.

The Ranger, which was the first vehicle in its class to achieve a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, has seen a number of upgrades in 2017, following the addition of the Ranger FX4 model in 2016. A limited edition model, the FX4 offered a unique exterior combination as well as interior treatments including leather-appointed seating.

In addition, the Ranger XLT has also been treated to upgrades in 2017, including the introduction of leather-appointed seating, previously only found on FX4 and Wildtrak. The leather seating joins a more sophisticated MY17 Ranger XLS, which sees a smooth-side tray following the deletion of tonneau cover hooks.

Ford Ranger 4×4 also offers SYNC 3 on the popular XLT and Wildtrak models, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Autoii compatibility, as well as integrated voice-activated sat-nav. Also standard on Ranger pick-up models is a full-colour reversing camera, as well as Emergency Assistance that automatically calls ‘000’ in the event of an airbag deployment or roll-over. The Ford Ranger is still the only vehicle in its class to offer Lane-Keeping Aid and Adaptive Cruise Control, which is standard on Ranger Wildtrak and optional on Ranger XLT.

Across Ford’s commercial lineup, the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom range also recorded strong September results, with the addition of an automatic transmission and new 2.0-litre EcoBlue engine earlier in 2017. Since the arrival of the six-speed automatic, Transit sales have increased by 11 percent, with Transit Custom sales up a substantial 31 percent year-on-year, with its September sales the best on record.

With a strong showing for its commercials this year, Ford will introduce the Ford Performance Ranger Raptor to Australia in 2018, which will be the first Ford Performance Ranger available to Aussie customers.
